Hairspray is a Broadway musical that first opened in 2002. It is based on the 1988 John Waters film. The story take place in 1962, where the lovable plus-size teen Tracy Turnblad has only one desire – to dance on the popular Corny Collins Show. When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star. In a story with a postive and uplifting message of acceptance, Tracy must use her newfound power to dethrone the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin, and integrate a TV network, all without denting her 'do! Hairspray won eight Tony Awards out of thirteen nominations, including Best Musical and Best Book of a Musical.
